The Swim Club at SplitClub is a social swim club in Miami, for floaters, lap swimmers and everyone in between. Its calendar has swims on Saturdays and Sundays. Members apply once, and each swim is posted to them in the SplitClub app.
It isn't a training program. Nobody's timing you. The point is the people.
When the swims are
The club's calendar has swims on Saturdays and Sundays at 11:30 AM from South Beach, through December. Most are Sandbar Saturdays and Sandbar Sundays: swim, float, talk. Later in the season the calendar adds a Snorkel Sunday, a Biscayne Bay Swim and Sandbar & Paddleboards.
Each swim has room for up to 13 members. The listing in the app has the meeting point, the time and what to know before you join. The calendar can change, and the app always has the current one.
Who it's for
Floaters and lap swimmers. People who've lived here ten years and people who moved last month. Brickell, after a week at a desk. Wynwood, bringing the crew. Coconut Grove and Miami Beach, who already know the water. Midtown, Edgewater and every neighborhood in between.
You don't need to be a strong swimmer. Swim within your own ability, and float when you'd rather talk.
Why it's an easy way to meet people
Most ways to meet people in Miami are loud. You shout over a DJ, or you stand at a mixer holding a drink and a name tag.
A swim is quieter. You're doing something together, so the conversation has somewhere to start. You talk between laps and on the float, and it keeps going after.
There are no name tags and no pitches. It's not a networking event. Meeting good people is just what happens when you spend a morning in the water with them.
What happens after
When you confirm participation in a swim, its group chat opens in the app. Names stick, and plans for later get made there: dinner, a night out, the next swim.
How to join
- Apply here or in the SplitClub app. It's three questions: your first name, your phone number and your Instagram. You can apply on your own or with up to five friends.
- Get accepted. There's one stage: you're accepted or you aren't. Once you are, The Swim Club is open to you.
- Join a swim. Pick a swim in the app and confirm participation. Each activity has a single activity contribution, shown in the app before you confirm. There's no initiation fee and no annual dues.
SplitClub is for adults 18 and over. Some events are 21+ and say so on the listing.
